HEPA FiltrationYou want and deserve to be comfortable in your own home, and indoor air quality is a component of comfort, as well as an ingredient for a healthful and efficient home. Read on to learn how HEPA filtration delivers in all of these important areas.

What is HEPA Filtration?

HEPA is not a name brand, but rather it’s an acronym for high-efficiency particulate air [filter]. Any filter that captures at least 99.97 percent of airborne contaminants (e.g. micro-organisms and particulates) 0.3 microns and bigger is considered a HEPA filter. HEPA filters are common in many applications, including whole-house air-purification systems.

HEPA in Your Home

HEPA filters are much thicker than standard air filters, constructed of random web-like pattern of fibers. Due to the thickness of HEPA filters, ductwork modifications may be needed for existing cooling/heating systems, or you may easily, and wisely, install a whole-house HEPA filtration system with your replacement system.

HEPA filters understandably cost more than standard fiberglass filters and high-efficiency pleated filters, but the investment pays back in many different ways, including the following:

  • Health: Many people suffer from allergies and/or asthma. HEPA filtration is literally a breath of fresh air for such folks who may find relief from common allergens such as pollen, pet dander, dust mite parts, aerosols, pollutants from attached garages and more. HEPA filters also capture viruses and bacteria that could trigger illness in occupants.
  • Home: HEPA filters capture mold spores before they can reach heat pump and A/C components and the air ducts. Homes in Clearwater and surrounding areas are no stranger to moisture, and condensate often forms on heat pump and A/C coils, making them susceptible to mold and mildew. Moreover, HEPA filters capture other particles that otherwise would degrade the heat exchange properties of these home-comfort systems.
  • Property: Household electronics, such as computer and media systems, are common attractors of dust. With a whole-house HEPA system, you can reduce dust and debris throughout your home.
